Ronnie Green will be the 20th chancellor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Green currently holds two positions at UNL: vice chancellor for the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and interim senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. Green’s selection was announced this afternoon (April 6) by University of Nebraska system president Hank Bounds. The selection is subject to the approval of the NU Board of Regents.

Green joined the UNL administration in 2010 as vice chancellor, and assumed the interim Academic Affairs position last year.

Raised on a farm in southwestern Virginia, Green received B.S. and M.S. degrees in animal science from Virginia Tech and Colorado State University, respectively. His Ph.D. program was completed jointly at the University of Nebraska and USDAARS U.S. Meat Animal Research Center in animal breeding and genetics.

Green’s background includes:

  • animal science faculty member at Texas Tech University and Colorado State University
  • national program leader for animal production research for the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service
  • executive secretary of the White House’s interagency working group on animal genomics within the National Science and Technology Council
  • senior global director of technical services for Pfizer Animal Health’s animal genomics business
  • Other finalists for the position were: Sabah Randhawa from Oregon State University; April Mason from Kansas State University; and Daniel Reed from the University of Iowa.

Green succeeds Harvey Perlman, who is retiring as chancellor on June 30 after serving in the position (interim and permanent) since 2000.
