Gold star plates CC 1-27-10 Knapp Nebraska has issued its first Gold Star Family license plates to family members of military personnel who died during active military service. Governor Dave Heineman presented a plate to Pat Mracek of Hay Springs, whose son Cory was killed in Iraq in 2004. And he presented one to Bob and Chris Wolf of Scottsbluff, whose son James was killed in Iraq in 2003. Bob Wolf said the plates are for all Gold Star families.

"This plate is for them, especially for all the Vietnam era vets who didn't come home," Wolf said. "This is for their families because they didn't get very much when they came home."

Numerical plates cost five dollars a year. Personalized plates cost forty dollars a year. Fees go to operate the Nebraska Veteran Cemetery System. A link to more information on the plates is available on our website, netnebraska.org/radio For more information click here
