Your Verdict: Affirmative Action on Trial

Both sides debate the controversial Proposition 424 in a courtroom setting in NET Television’s "Your Verdict: Affirmative Action on Trial."

Proposition 424 would eliminate racial and gender preferences in Nebraska government and educational institutions with an amendment to the state's constitution. In advance of the Nov. 4 election, opposing organizations have formed to support and oppose the initiative. The unique format of "Your Verdict: Affirmative Action on Trial" allows representatives on both sides of the issue to select their own witnesses, ask their own questions and frame the issue however they see fit, without any filters or analysis from the media. Procedures and rules for the mock trial were negotiated with NET Television prior to the taping of the event on Sept. 15, at Creighton University in Omaha.

Petitions circulated by the Nebraska Civil Rights Initiative (NECRI) put Proposition 424 on the ballot. Nebraskans United opposes the Proposition 424 and describes itself as a group of concerned citizens devoted to promoting equality, fairness and diversity in the state.
