Johannes Brahms
1833 - 1897, Germany-Austria
|
Johannes Brahms
When barely
twenty years of age, Johannes Brahms was hailed as a musical Messiah by
Robert Schumann and found himself thrust into the limelight of the European
musical scene. Although characterized as a musical conservative in the
aesthetic battles that raged during his lifetime, Brahms persisted in
creating a body of music that consistently offers an unparalleled combination
of technical polish and depth of expression. Brahms remains one of the
few composers of the last two centuries who intentionally embraced tradition
without allowing it to stifle his creativity. Join us as we explore the
music of nineteenth-century master composer Johannes Brahms.
