465 coffins of identified victims from the Srebrenica massacre ready for proper burial in 2007 |
One Person's Response
Hatiza Mehemdedovic, a Bosnian Muslim, lost her husband, both of her sons, and all the men in her extended family in mass murders at Srebrenica in 1995. More than seven thousand Muslim men were killed in the course of a few days. Years after her loved ones disappeared, she told visiting professor Nick Hayes of Saint John's University:
"What other woman, what other mother can say that this is what she wants for her
children? Not children of her own, not grandchildren for me, but what she wants for her
children is a coffin? I am that woman. All I want is to bury my children and then I can
die."
