The Middle of Everywhere - Curtis Bright Info

"The Middle of Everywhere" Poem | Poem in QT | Poem in Real

If you send Curtis Bright an email you never know what might become of it. After receiving an email from a friend concerning facts of Nebraska firsts, one thing led to another, and it eventually became the poem "The Middle of Everywhere", featured in Next Exit's "Beginnings".

Curtis, a 35 year old Lincoln, Nebraska native, wrote the poem in about two hours and shot much of the video for the segment himself. Having worked in a variety of video related jobs in Nebraska and New Jersey, Curtis wanted to bring the known and not so known facts of Nebraska to life through verse and video.

To pull off the segment Curtis enlisted the help of his brother's family and his 80-year-old grandmother, who can be seen attempting to eat an onion toward the end of the poem. Curtis said that one of the most difficult and fun parts of the segment was trying to "get her to stop laughing." Curtis himself can also be seen in the piece dancing a jig around the "Nebraska...The Good Life" sign.

Besides video production and poetry, Curtis also designs funny greeting cards, publishes a cartoon called "Involuntary Humour", and is an innkeeper for the Rogers House Bed and Breakfast in Lincoln. Sounds like Curtis may need a poem written about himself to keep track of all his firsts.
