A Woman in Her Place - Jazz Inn

In one of our other segments on this episode of Next Exit we featured a lounge in Omaha which holds weekly jazz jam sessions. Well, don't look now Omaha but Jeanne Goetzinger is holding her own jazz sessions every month at the Olde Main Street Inn in Chadron. It might not be what you would expect to find at your typical Bed and Breakfast, but if you call ahead, you may just find some great jazz music being played during your next stay at the Inn.

[Goetzinger] "We have jazz usually once a month through the school year. And it's in coordination with the commercial jazz program at Chadron State. Don Parker and I started that. It's been over ten years ago now. It was actually written up in the National Jazz Newsletter. It allows the students to get into a jazz environment and play in the environment they're being trained to play in. And so the High Plains Jazz Festival brings all the high schools in the area together and they have a competition. And then they have the jam session with the clinicians afterwards down here so the young people are also able to play with the professional musicians and learn from them."

In addition to the monthly jazz sessions, a visit to the Olde Main Street Inn can produce other unique experiences. The rustic charm of the Inn provides a setting with a variety of antique furniture and historical memorabilia. Suites at the Olde Main Street pay homage to Mari Sandoz and General Nelson Miles, as well as a Cowboy Room and the soon to be opened Railroad Room. Most of the occupancies are two or three room suites.
