Floating Down the River - Transcript

Excerpt 1 in QT | Excerpt 1 in Real | Excerpt 2 in QT | Excerpt 2 in Real

[Cheryl Kreikemeyer] "At the end of July eighteen kids and three adults went up so we could canoe down the Niobrara as part of our annual trip that we take for our youth group. And we go up and we camp."

[Alice Craig] "It was interesting to see people pitch their tents. Some people just know didn't how it goes."

[Cheryl Kreikemeyer] "And the favorite place to camp is at Smith Falls because of the proximity of the falls. And how they get over there right away when we get there. And of course they all want to get in it, and they're amazed at how cold it is, and how pure it is and clear it is.

"It's fun trying to wait and ambush someone and get them with the water pipes and trying to sneak up behind them and tip the canoes and things like that. We always go during the middle of the week and things seem to be a little bit calmer on the river where sometimes we'll go for hours and not see anyone else. And so I in a way they feel like they are alone and then they get to kick back and have even more fun than they might on a weekend when it's a little busier.

"And its so quiet up there, and peaceful. Where you get to contemplate just the beauty that surrounds you and you're not worried about what's going on back home, or the stresses that you have to get to when you go back to work when this trip is over."

[Alice Craig] "If you close your eyes you could just almost imagine that there's like -- you were just sucked in the water around you and everything was, it was like you were almost drawn into the whole big circle of things. It was nice -- very relaxing."
