When you're watching Eddie Blazonczyk
and the Versatones perform, there is an overwhelming sense of mastery.
And why not?? Eddie has been barnstorming the dance halls, taverns,
polka festivals and church picnics for 37 years. In Polish or English,
his powerful voice delivers emotion-drenched songs of his people,
working class Polish-Americans, for more than a century the builders
of America's "Rust Belt." |
Already by the mid-1960's everyone knew the Versatones was the band to
emulate in the world of Polish-American polka. Eddie demands strict precision
from his sidemen. His favored six-piece line-up has become the standard.
With his son, Ed Jr. standing at his side playing both concertina and
fiddle, the Blazonczyk tradition is sure to continue on.
After a set of exuberant music, Eddie is besieged by fans. He graciously
poses for snapshot after snapshot. Everyone needs to be photographed with
the great man of polka. He's not a distant star. He tells your story in
music. He's an emblem of your community that you can put your arm around.
