Vincent Hron-Painter
Produced by Camille Steed

Art is very often a reflection of the
way an artist sees the world. We visit a painter who shows us that what may
seem to be ordinary can, in fact, become extraordinary. Camille Steed has
our portrait of Omaha painter Vince Hron.
[Vince Hron:] "I'd like people to
feel like they could walk into the space and inhabit it."
And that's just the sensation you feel when you experience
work by Vince Hron. The operative word here is "experience." His
paintings are big with particular attention to detail and mundanely familiar.
[Vince:] "I used to always wonder what I should draw.
You know, when I was a kid, I didn't know what to say and I found that if
I just looked at what was around me and interpreted it, it was more meaningful
to myself and to other people than any, you know, specific message."
Vince uses a combination of oils and acrylics to create his
paintings, and his works come in three main series -- interiors, playgrounds,
and neighborhoods.
[Vince:] "I usually take a lot of photos, and I also
work from observation, too. You go and do drawings on location. The photos
are fun because you can shuffle them up and take a chair from this place and
a carpeting from that place and a pattern from this other place and then invent
your own pattern so they give you a great deal of information."
Vince's paintings are a good example of what fine art is all
about. By focusing on scenes out of everyday life, his work enables us to
get in touch with those common experiences that run throughout all our lives.
[Vince:] "I want the paintings to be appreciated by diverse
audiences. I would like children to be able to walk up and enjoy them as much
as old people and anyone who would want to be able to look at a picture and
sort of feel like they could relate to it in some way. I think that's what
happens when you see a great painting. You walk outside and the world looks
a little different to you, maybe only for a few minutes ... but it can have
a change on how you see the world."
