Jana
McGuire
Host
Jana
McGuire, the host of "Statewide," began her broadcast career as a morning
news announcer for KECK-AM radio in Lincoln while attending the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Journalism. She then worked at KLIN-AM
in Lincoln, where she accepted a full-time news reporter/announcer position
following graduation.
In her quest
for a career in television, Jana went to St. Joseph, Mo., in 1988, where
she worked briefly as a reporter and substitute news anchor for KQTV before
taking a job with Omaha TV station KMTV as Lincoln bureau chief. McGuire
was working as a broadcast specialist in the UNL Office of Public Relations
and completing her Master's Degree in Journalism when she began hosting
"Statewide" in 1993.
In 1997,
McGuire left her full-time job at UNL to stay home and raise her two young
boys, Grady and Will. In addition to hosting "Statewide" and chasing kids,
Jana is a freelance writer and video producer. On weekends, you'll find
her playing bass and singing with the band, Blackwater. She's still holding
out for that call from Nashville.
Working in
public television is a family affair for McGuire as her father, Dick Turpin
- wildlife's answer to McGyver - is a weekly fixture on NET Television's "Outdoor
Nebraska." McGuire is proud to share the screen with her dad and wastes
no time in pointing out when "Statewide" edges him out in the ratings.
