Live Blog: Thursday At The Republican Convention
Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who has been trying for the past six years to become the Republican Party's presidential nominee, accepts that honor tonight at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in Florida.
According to excerpts released by his campaign, Romney will tell Americans that he understands why they voted for "hope and change" four years ago, but that President Obama has not delivered and that "my country deserves better."
Romney is set to give his acceptance speech in the 10 p.m. ET hour. Also on the program for the closing session of the 2012 Republican National Convention are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — the only member of his family to directly address the delegates this year — and a rising star from Florida, Sen. Marco Rubio.
The session will have a celebrity appearance as well: Actor/director Clint Eastwood is due to take the stage.
We will be live blogging through the evening. The convention reconvenes at 7:30 p.m. ET. Also tonight, starting at 8 p.m. ET, NPR will be airing a special broadcast from Tampa. It will be streamed on NPR.org. And our colleague Frank James will be hosting a live chat if you'd like some analysis and online conversation.
