Dalai Lama opens Senate with prayers
The Dalai Lama opened U.S. Senate proceedings with prayers Thursday, marking the first time the Tibetan spiritual leader has performed the traditional prayer that opens each session.
Speaking in both Tibetan and English, the Dalai Lama offered several prayers and closed with what he called his favorite: “Daily I pray this. That gives me inner strength. So I am asking to serve humanity. As long as space remains and as long as beings remain, until then may I too, remain and help dispel the misery of the world.”
