What is podcasting? Podcasting is an easy new way to automatically download audio programs to your computer, iPod or other MP3 player. You subscribe to the podcast for the program you want, and whenever the program is updated, your computer downloads the audio so you can listen at your convenience.
Why would I want it? No matter how much you love your favorite programs, life sometimes gets in the way of hearing them. When you subscribe to a program's podcast, every episode will always be automatically downloaded after it airs—you'll never miss a broadcast again! Podcasting lets you listen whenever and wherever it's convenient for you... in the car, at the gym, in the middle of the lake...
How do I get it? In order to listen to podcasts you will need to first install a podcasting program, such as iTunes, Juice (formerly iPodder) or Pubcatcher. You choose which programs you want subscribe to, and whenever you're connected to the Internet, the podcasting program will check for any new files for the programs you subscribed to.
Why doesn't NET Radio podcast its music shows?
Because a podcast involves audio being downloaded to your personal computer or MP3 player, the recording industry's legal requirements currently make it very difficult to produce a legal podcast. NPR and other stations are negotiating with the recording industry to be able to include music in podcasts, but until then we are unable to podcast music.
How much does it cost to use NET's podcasts? NET's podcasts are free for you to use, but expensive to produce and serve.
