LUX Center for the Arts will be featuring “Omission in Print” by Artist-in-Residence Joy Ude for our First Friday opening reception on Friday, July 11 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in our Folsom Gallery. Ude, an American-born child of Nigerian immigrants, continually works to shape her identity as an African American woman. “Omission in Print” will focus on images of family members here and abroad in Nigeria. Photo transfer images of these relatives—partially obscured by African wax cloth, burlap, and embroidery—are combined, creating fragmented visual narratives. The work will address the concept of culture loss and the uncertainty of a family history partially lost-in-translation over the decades. This show will be on view through July 28.
