In 1958, 19-year-old Charlie Starkweather took his 14-year-old ex-girlfriend Caril Fugate on a murder rampage that left 11 people dead. In the end, the question became whether Caril had been kidnapped, or was his accomplice.
Pro Bono - The 18-Year Defense of Caril Ann Fugate tells the story of the defense team in this historic case. Written by Jeff McArthur, the grandson of the lead attorney, this book covers the story from the murders through the 18 years of appeals, and beyond.
McArthur will be reading from his book at Bennett Martin Public Library and answering questions, as well as signing books for those who are interested on January 6th at 3 pm.
