READY TO LEARN WITH NET TELEVISION
Parents and educators have long appreciated the value of public television's programming for children. The Ready to Learn service helps parents and child care providers take advantage of the programs' educational content and value, extending the learning experience into fun activities and book reading. What is Ready To Learn?
Ready To Learn - created especially for families and child care providers - helps those who care for young children encourage a child's natural curiosity and love of learning. Ready To Learn combines television designed to teach with community outreach and innovative educational materials. These resources help families, teachers and caregivers across the country use public television to help meet the national educational goal that all children will begin school "Ready To Learn".
In addition to the broadcast programs and outreach, each Ready To Learn station distributes more than 300 children's books a month to children who otherwise might not have books of their own. The program, sponsored by FirstBook, unites the power of television with the magic of books to introduce families to the joy of reading.

Children and Television
Second only to parents, television is the young child's most influential teacher. Nothing else in our culture can match television's ability to influence how children learn, think and act. Given the power of television, young children need adults to help them become wise television users. Many studies show that with selective viewing, television can contribute richly to school readiness. To help children get the most from the TV they watch parents must take responsibility to supervise and guide their children's TV viewing.
